About Synology Drive

Synology Drive is a tool from the Synology series designed to sync files between your computers and Synology NAS through the internet. This way, files are always available whenever needed and are never outdated. This is an ideal sharing solution for home offices, SMBs, and enterprises with multiple branches. The system offers automatic syncing functionalities so that any changes done in one device is reflected on other devices. It also streamlines the sync process of folders making files easy to share and access throughout the different office, no matter how physically far they are from each other. Moreover, the platform allows live and concurrent edits and revisions to a document by multiple people. With the chat feature, communicating while collaboration is seamless. Damage done by accidental deletions or edits is also mitigated, if not removed, thanks to Synology’s backup capability for both the files themselves and the previous versions of them. Synology Drive integrates with various public cloud services in order to sync files to and from them. This includes Box, Google Drive, Amazon Drive, WebDAV, MS OneDrive, Microsoft Azure, and more. The system also comes with a mobile app for both iOS and Android devices. Through this, you can access and share files on the go. It can also open Synology documents, slideshows, etc. on a user-friendly display.

Benifits

On-Premise Infrastructure

By storing your data on Synology NAS locally, you will have full data ownership, thus reducing the risk and potential loss caused by data leakage. When sharing files in the same office, you can access them at LAN speed without being constrained by Internet bandwidth. You don’t have to pay for the software or worry about recurring subscription fees. A one-time cost for the NAS and the drives will be the only payments you need to make. Synology NAS can be integrated with your existing Windows AD / LDAP account system, so you don’t need to either spend time setting up a new account system or painfully remember another new account and password again.

File Syncing

The Synology Drive Client desktop application offers real-time file synchronization between your Windows/macOS/Ubuntu computer and Synology Drive Server. The On-demand Sync feature on Synology Drive Client allows you to see all the files without consuming the storage space on your PC. The files will be downloaded to your computer only when you need it. With Synology Drive ShareSync, a Synology NAS package, you can synchronize files between NAS devices in real-time and automatically sync data across offices.

File Sharing

You can easily share files with others on Synology Drive Client, web portal, or Synology’s iOS/Android mobile applications. Add an extra layer of protection to your data by defining permission settings for different viewers: invitees only, internal users only, or the public. You can also specify a password and a valid period when sharing with the public.

File Collaboration

Integrated with Synology Office, which enables users to create and edit files online, Synology Drive lets multiple users simultaneously edit on the same document, sheets, or slides. You can also leave comments on specific words/sentences to streamline the discussion with your teammates. It’s compatible with Microsoft Word, Spreadsheet, and PowerPoint.

Data Backup

You can back up your computer files to Synology Drive Server by using Synology Drive Client, so you no longer have to worry about any mistaken deletions. Besides, you can schedule to back up your files during off-peak hours to use the Internet bandwidth more efficiently.
